Also referred to as: Odyssey: the Musical, this is both my third musical, and third collaboration with Director Peter Murphy. This was also my first collaboration with Ronn Kistler, a playwright with his own Dramatic Publishing company: Creative Educational Systems (CES). Working on this show was such a rewarding experience for all three of us. Even though we worked entirely on Zoom for 4 months, I had never been part of a show that was more collaborative.
This show is my crowning achievement of all the major works I have done thus far. Although all the songs are Voice and Piano as of this time, this has original songs that integrate into the story very well.
As with As You Like It, The Odyssey was premiered by the Imago School in Central Massachusetts on May 7th 2021. It was during the first few months after the Pandemic, so the actors performed the show outdoors on a small beach in Bolton MA. (Thankfully, with no masks!) With the sand as the stage, and the water as the backdrop, combined with great acting & singing, this show became a truly memorable experience.
I recorded a soundtrack with other singers, and shared it with multiple directors. A few years later, the Lantern Arts Centre (a Youth Theatre Program in London) picked it up. They enthusiastically gave the show its UK premiere on July 1st 2023. (They performed it again in September 29th & 30th.)
